Faith is like a shadow; by which actions is faith lost?
Hadith 25
(حديث مرفوع) أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، نا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، وَعَنْ رَجُلٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، وَعَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، وَعَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَحْسَبُهُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ كُلُّهُمْ يَرْفَعُهُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لا يَزْنِي الزَّانِي حِينَ يَزْنِي وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ ، وَلا يَسْرِقُ السَّارِقُ حِينَ يَسْرِقُ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ ، وَلا يَشْرَبُ الْخَمْرَ حِينَ يَشْرَبُهَا وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ ، وَلا يَغُلُّ وَهُوَ حِينَ يَغُلُّ مُؤْمِنٌ ، وَلا يَنْتَهِبُ نُهْبَةً يَرْفَعُ النَّاسُ إِلَيْهَا أَبْصَارَهُمْ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ " ، قَالَ ابْنُ طَاوُسٍ : وَقَالَ أَبِي : إِذَا فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ زَالَ عَنْهُ الإِيمَانُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ : الإِيمَانُ كَالظِّلِّ أَوْ نَحْوِ ذَلِكَ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "A fornicator does not commit fornication while he is a believer, a thief does not steal while he is a believer, a drunkard does not drink wine while he is a believer, a treacherous person does not commit treachery while he is a believer, and no person commits robbery and plunder while he is a believer, such that the people's eyes are raised towards him and he is looting." Ibn Tawus says: And my father said: When he does these (acts), faith departs from him. He said: Faith is like a shadow or something similar to it.
Hadith 26
(حديث مرفوع) أَخْبَرَنَا عَفَّانُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الْعَيْنَانُ تَزْنِيَانِ ، وَالرِّجْلانِ تَزْنِيَانِ ، وَيُصَدِّقُ ذَلِكَ الْفَرْجُ أَوْ يُكَذِّبُهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "The eyes commit adultery (by looking), the legs and feet commit adultery, and the private part either confirms or denies it."
Hadith 27
أَخْبَرَنَاالْمُؤَمَّلُ ، عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ ، قَالَ : بَدَلَ الرِّجْلَيْنِ الْيَدَيْنِ .
Hammad bin Salamah narrated this hadith with the same chain, and he mentioned "hands" instead of "feet."
