No accountability for thoughts that come to the heart
Hadith 20
(حديث مرفوع) أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، نا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَجَاوَزَ عَنْ أُمَّتِي مَا حَدَّثَتْ بِهِ أَنْفُسَهَا ، مَا لَمْ تَعْمَلْهُ أَوْ تَكَلَّمْ بِهِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: "Allah has pardoned my Ummah for what arises in their hearts, as long as they do not act upon it or speak about it."
Hadith 21
أَخْبَرَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، نا مِسْعَرٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، مِثْلَهُ وَلَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ .
Zararah bin Abi Aufa narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) the same narration, and he did not narrate it as marfu'.
Hadith 22
(حديث مرفوع) أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَفَا عَنْ أُمَّتِي مَا حَدَّثَتْ بِهِ أَنْفُسَهَا ، مَا لَمْ تَعْمَلْهُ أَوْ تَكَلَّمْ بِهِ " .
Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "Allah has pardoned my Ummah for thoughts that arise in their hearts, as long as they do not act upon them or speak about them."
