Lying about the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and the sin of giving fatwa without verification
Hadith 5
(حديث مرفوع) أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُقْرِئُ ، نا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، حَدَّثَنِي بَكْرُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ قَالَ عَلَيَّ مَا لَمْ أَقُلْ ، فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ ، وَمَنِ اسْتَشَارَهُ أَخُوهُ الْمُسْلِمُ فَأَشَارَ عَلَيْهِ بِغَيْرِ رُشْدٍ ، فَقَدْ خَانَهُ ، وَمَنْ أَفْتَى فُتْيَا بِغَيْرِ تَثَبُّتٍ ، فَإِنَّ إِثْمَهَا عَلَى مَنْ أَفْتَاهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever attributes to me something which I have not said, let him take his place in Hell. Whoever is consulted by his Muslim brother and does not give him sincere advice, then he has betrayed him. And whoever gives a fatwa without proper investigation, then its sin is upon the one who gave the fatwa."
Hadith 6
(حديث موقوف) أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي سِنَانٍ ضِرَارِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ أَفْتَى فُتْيَا يَعْمَى عَنْهَا ، فَإِنَّمَا إِثْمُهَا عَلَيْهِ " .
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Whoever gives a fatwa without knowledge, then its sin is upon the one who gave the fatwa."
