Hadith 945

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: "People will be gathered in three groups: a third on riding animals, a third walking on their feet, and a third dragged on their faces." It was asked: O Messenger of Allah! How will they walk on their faces? He (peace be upon him) said: "The One who made them walk on their feet is able to make them walk on their faces. Listen! They will walk on their faces over every elevated place and thorn."

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
In Sahih Bukhari, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “People will be gathered in three states: those who desire (good) and those who fear (punishment). Two men will ride on one camel, three men on one camel, four men on one camel, and ten men on one camel. The rest of the people will be gathered by the Fire; wherever they take a midday rest, it will rest with them; wherever they spend the night, it will spend the night with them; wherever they enter the morning, it will enter the morning with them; and wherever they enter the evening, it will enter the evening with them.” (Bukhari, no. 6522. Silsilah al-Sahihah, no. 3395)

It is understood from this that there will be three types of people. The meaning of “gathering” is that on the Day of Resurrection, when people will be raised from their graves. Allah the Exalted says:
“At that time you will become three groups: (first) the people of the right—how (fortunate) are the people of the right! (second) the people of the left—how (wretched) are the people of the left! (third) the foremost—they are indeed the foremost.”

From the aforementioned hadith and verses, it is understood that there will be two types of people who will be saved, and one type will be the people of Hell, who will be driven on their faces. As Allah the Exalted says:
“Those who will be gathered on their faces towards Hell—those are the worst in position and most astray in path.”

It is narrated in Sahih Bukhari that Sayyiduna Anas radi Allahu anhu reported that a companion said: O Messenger of Allah! How will the disbelievers be gathered on their faces on the Day of Resurrection? The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Is not He Who made them walk on two feet in the world able to make them walk on their faces on the Day of Resurrection?” (Bukhari, Kitab al-Riqaq, no. 6523)
