Hadith 937

Lady Fatimah (bint Yaman, may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: I came into the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) along with some women, and saw that he had hung a water-skin and, due to the pain he was experiencing, its water was being dripped drop by drop onto him. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah that He removes your pain. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The most severe trials come upon all the Prophets (peace be upon them), then those after them, then those after them, and then those after them.”

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
It is understood that the closer a servant is to Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, the more he faces trials. These trials become an expiation for sins. It is narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari that Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas'ud radi Allahu anhu stated: I went to the service of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and found him suffering from a severe fever. I said: O Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam! You are suffering from a very intense fever. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam replied: "Yes, I experience fever as much as two men among you." I said: Is it because your reward is also doubled? He replied: "Yes, that is the case. Whatever affliction befalls a Muslim, whether it is a thorn or something more painful than that, then just as a tree sheds its leaves, in the same way Allah the Exalted makes that affliction an expiation for his sins." (Bukhari, Kitab al-Marda, No. 5648)

The statement of Allah is: ﴿اَحَسِبَ النَّاسُ اَنْ یُّتْرَکُوْٓا اَنْ یَّقُوْلُوْٓا اٰمَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا یُفْتَنُوْنَ﴾ () ... "Do people think that they will be left alone simply because they say: 'We believe,' and that they will not be tested?" Thus, it is clear that believers have to face trials. Keeping in view the circumstances of previous nations and the noble Prophets alayhimussalam, we too should be patient in the face of difficulties and hardships.
