Narrated by Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to the toilet, so I brought a vessel of water to him. He performed istinja (cleaning) with it, then rubbed both his hands on the ground and then washed them. Then I brought another vessel, and he performed ablution (wudu) with it.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: However, it is established from other authentic hadiths that after performing istinja (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself), striking the hand on the ground is proven from the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. As narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu, the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam relieved himself, then performed istinja (cleaned himself) with water from a brass vessel, then rubbed his hand on the ground to clean it. (Sunan Ibn Majah, no. 358; Sunan Abi Dawud, no. 45) Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah has graded this as hasan (good). It is thus understood that one should rub the hand on earth and then wash it; nowadays, soap can be used for this purpose so that no trace of odor remains.
