A time will come when there will be no one to lead prayer
Hadith 881

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ بْنُ هَمَّامِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ الصَّنْعَانِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ بَعْضِ الْعُلَمَاءِ قَالَ: ((أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَتَدَافَعَ قَوْمٌ الْإِمَامَةَ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يَقُولُ هَذَا لِهَذَا تَقَدَّمْ، وَهَذَا لِهَذَا تَقَدَّمْ حَتَّى خُسِفَ بِهِمْ)).
Abdur Razzaq bin Hammam bin Nafi’ al-San’ani narrated: I heard my father narrating from some scholars, they said: The iqamah for prayer will be called, and people will push one another forward for leading the prayer. So this one will say to that one: Go ahead, and that one will say to this one: Go ahead, until they are swallowed up by the earth.

From the aforementioned statement, it is understood that a time will come when there will be no one to lead the prayer (imamate). This will occur near the approach of the Hour (Qiyamah), when religious knowledge will be taken away and ignorance will become widespread. It is mentioned in Sahih al-Bukhari that Sayyiduna Abu Musa radi Allahu anhu says that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "Before the Hour, there will come days in which ignorance will prevail, knowledge will be taken away, and harj—that is, bloodshed—will become widespread." (Bukhari, Kitab al-Fitan, Bab Zuhur al-Fitan, No. 7061)
When there is ignorance and no knowledge, then there will be no one qualified for imamate either. Even in the present era, people are developing the mindset that there is no benefit in teaching religious knowledge. Gradually, people are turning away from religious knowledge and inclining towards worldly knowledge.
