Narrated from Sayyida Asma bint Yazid Ash’ariyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), she heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying while he was among his companions: “I warn and caution you against the Messiah Dajjal, and every prophet has warned his people about him. O Ummah! He will be among you. I am describing him to you in such a clear manner that no prophet has described him like this before. There will be five years of famine before his emergence, until all livestock will perish in them.”
A man called out to him and asked: O Messenger of Allah! What will suffice the believers for food on that day? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “That which suffices the angels will suffice them. Then he (Dajjal) will emerge while he is one-eyed, and Allah is not one-eyed. ‘Kafir’ (disbeliever) will be written on his forehead, and every literate and illiterate person will read it. Most of his followers will be Jews, Bedouins, and women. You will see rain falling from the sky, but he will not send rain. You will see the earth producing vegetation, but it will not produce. He will say to the Bedouins: What do you want from me? Did I not send down heavy rain for you? Did I not revive your livestock for you, which are fat, their bellies protruding, and their udders full of milk?”
He said: “Satan will appear to them in the images of their fathers, brothers, and friends. So a man will come to his father, his brother, or his relative, and he will say to him: Are you not so-and-so? Do you not affirm me? He is your Lord, so follow him. He (Dajjal) will remain for forty years: a year like a month, a month like a week, a week like a day, and a day like a spark in the fire. He will go to every pass except the two mosques (Makkah and Madinah).”
Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to perform ablution, and he heard the weeping and wailing of his noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them all), so he returned and said: “Rejoice! If he appears while I am among you, then Allah and His Messenger are sufficient for you. And if he appears after me, then Allah is my successor among you.”
