Hadith 852

With this same chain, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Hasten to perform good deeds before six things occur: the emergence of the beast, the rising of the sun from the west, the coming of the Dajjal, the appearance of the smoke, before death comes, and before the appearance of tribulations."

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits:
From the mentioned hadith, it is understood that before the coming of these six things, a person should perform righteous deeds. As for the Beast of the Earth (Dabbat al-Ard), the rising of the sun from the west, and the emergence of the Dajjal, see the explanation of hadith number 220.

Smoke: After the appearance of the smoke, performing righteous deeds, bringing faith, or repenting will not be of any benefit to anyone. This smoke will envelop the entire earth; Muslims will only suffer from suffocation, catarrh, and cold, while the disbelievers will fall unconscious. Allah the Exalted says:
"...So wait for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke, enveloping the people; this will be a painful punishment... 'Our Lord, remove from us the punishment; indeed, we are believers.'"

Repentance before death: From the mentioned hadith, it is understood that a person should perform righteous deeds before death comes, because regret afterwards will be of no use. Allah the Exalted says:
"And spend from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, 'My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous.' But never will Allah delay a soul when its time has come. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do."

Even Pharaoh professed faith at the time of drowning. Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, said:
"Now? While you had disobeyed before and were of the corrupters."

At the time of the appearance of tribulations: It is understood that righteous deeds should be performed before the appearance of tribulations, because after the tribulations, performing righteous deeds becomes difficult.
