Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A wolf came to a shepherd of sheep and seized a sheep from the flock. The shepherd chased after it and rescued the sheep from it. The wolf sat on a mound and said: I intended a provision/sustenance that Allah had granted me, but you snatched it away from me. The man said: By Allah! I have never seen a wolf speak like today. The wolf said: Is it not more astonishing that there is a man between two rocky fields, among the palm groves, who tells you about past and future events? The narrator said: That man was a Jew. He came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him, then accepted Islam. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) affirmed it and said: “This is one of the signs before the occurrence of the Hour. It is near that a man will leave his house and when he returns, his shoes will inform him of what happened, and his whip will tell him what his family did after him.”

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
The aforementioned narration is weak in terms of its chain of transmission; in it, Shahr ibn Hawshab is described as "truthful, but frequently sends (narrations) and makes mistakes" (Taqrib al-Tahdhib: 2830). However, its supporting narrations are found in the two Sahihs.

As narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah radi Allahu anhu: I heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say, "A shepherd was herding his sheep when a wolf came and began to carry off a sheep from the flock. The shepherd tried to rescue the sheep from it, but the wolf spoke and said: 'Who will guard it on the day of the beasts, when there will be no shepherd except me?'" (Sahih al-Bukhari, no. 3663; Muslim, no. 2388)

It is thus known that Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, is All-Powerful; if He wills, He can grant even animals the ability to speak. The meaning of "the day of the beasts" is that a time will come in this world when the shepherds of the sheep and those who guard them will cease to exist; then there will either be beasts or sheep, and those sheep will be torn apart by the beasts as they wish.

Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has written: This will occur when people are preoccupied with many tribulations. Abandoning the protection of animals, they will be concerned for their own lives; at that time, the beasts will tear apart (the sheep), and the wolves will be set upon them. (Fath al-Bari: 7/27)
