Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
➊ From the mentioned hadith, it is understood that near the Day of Judgment, Muslims will fight against a non-Arab (ajami) nation.
“Their faces will be like hammered shields...” — “as if their faces are like folded shields.”
Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah says: “al-mijan” is the plural of “mijn,” and “mijn” means “al-tirs,” that is, shield, and a shield is used to protect the whole body from arrows (etc.), so their faces are likened in this sense to being broad and round like a shield. And “mutraqah” likens their faces in the sense that they will be very thick and fleshy. (Fath al-Bari: 6/743. Sharh Muslim by al-Nawawi: p. 2009)
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah radi Allahu anhu says that by this is meant the people of Barz, i.e., the Kurds. (Bukhari, no. 3591)
Some have taken this to mean the Turkic people. As Hafiz Iraqi rahimahullah writes: This is a miracle of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and the nation whose characteristics he described, all those characteristics are found in the Turkic people — that is, those with reddish faces, small eyes, flat noses, those who wear hair shoes, and their faces are like shields, and Muslims have fought against this nation several times.
(Tarh al-Tathrib: 7/224. Sharh Muslim by al-Nawawi: p. 2010)
➋ ... In the mentioned hadith, encouragement is given to earn with one’s own hand, and discouragement is given for begging in front of people. It is understood that working hard and adopting a profession is better than the humiliation of asking, even if that profession is considered lowly in the eyes of people. The noble Prophets adopted various professions as a means of livelihood, such as Dawud alayhis salam, who used to eat from what he earned with his own hand and used to make iron armor.
➌ ... It is understood that a person should first spend on himself and his family, because this is his responsibility. As Sayyiduna Jabir radi Allahu anhu narrated, a man said: O Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, I have one dinar. He said: “Spend it on yourself.” Then he said: I have another dinar. He said: “Spend it on your servant,” or he said: “Spend it on your children.” (Adab al-Mufrad: 750)
➍ ... From the mentioned hadith, the virtue of the fasting person is also established. The odor that arises from an empty stomach is more fragrant than musk.
