On the Day of Judgment, rulers will be full of regret
Hadith 840

أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ، نا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، أنا عَاصِمٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي النَّجُودِ قَالَ: أنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ شَرِيكٍ، أَنَّ الضَّحَّاكَ بنَ قَيْسٍ، بَعَثَ مَعَهُ بِكِسْوَةٍ إِلَى مَرْوَانَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ، فَقَالَ: انْظُرْ مَنْ بِالْبَابِ، فَقَالَ: أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ، فَقَالَ: ائْذَنْ لَهُ، فَدَخَلَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ مَرْوَانُ: حَدِّثْنَا حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((لَيَتَمَنَّيَنَّ أَقْوَامٌ وُلُّوا هَذَا الْأَمْرَ أَنَّهُمْ خَرُّوا مِنَ الثُّرَيَّا وَلَمْ يَلُوا مِنْ هَذَا الْأَمْرِ شَيْئًا)) ، فَقَالَ: زِدْنَا، فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: ((فَنَاءُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ عَلَى يَدِ أُغَيْلِمَةٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ)).
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Those who rule will wish that they had fallen from Thurayya (the Pleiades) rather than having accepted anything from this rulership." Marwan said: Please elaborate further. He (Abu Hurairah) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The destruction of this Ummah will be at the hands of a few young men from the Quraysh."

Benefits:
Authority, office, and governance are significant responsibilities, and due to this very importance, their reckoning will also be severe. On the Day of Judgment, rulers will express regret and remorse, wishing that they had not accepted these positions. Appointing young and incompetent individuals to positions of governance leads to corruption in society; this is why incompetent rulers have been counted among the signs of the Hour.
