Abdullah bin Buraidah narrated: Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) went out at the time of ‘Isha and met the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took his hand and brought him into the mosque, where a man was supplicating with these words: “O Allah! I ask You, I bear witness that You are Allah, the One, the Only, the Self-Sufficient, Who neither begets nor is begotten, and there is none equal to Him.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “By Him in Whose hand is my soul! He has supplicated to Allah with His Greatest Name; when He is supplicated with it, He responds, and when He is asked with it, He gives.”

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: It is understood from the aforementioned hadith that when supplication is made with the Greatest Name (Ism al-A'zam), it is accepted—provided that there is nothing preventing the acceptance of the supplication, as is established from authentic ahadith: the supplications of those who consume the unlawful (haram) and those who supplicate with an inattentive heart are not accepted.
The command of Allah, the Exalted, is: ﴿وَلِلّٰهِالْاَسْمَآءُالْحُسْنٰیفَادْعُوْهُبِهَا﴾ (: al-A'raf:180) ... “And to Allah belong the best names, so call upon Him by them.”
The words mentioned in the above hadith are the attributes mentioned in Surah al-Ikhlas, in which there is a comprehensive exposition of tawhid (the oneness of Allah): (1) Indeed, You are Allah (innaka anta Allah) (2) The One (al-Ahad) (3) The Self-Sufficient (al-Samad) (4) He begets not (lam yalid) (5) Nor was He begotten (wa lam yulad) (6) And there is none comparable to Him (wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad).
Regarding Surah al-Ikhlas, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “It is equal to one third of the Qur’an.” Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) states: In terms of chain of narration, this hadith is the most preponderant regarding the Greatest Name (Ism al-A'zam).
It is understood from the aforementioned hadith that we should adorn our supplications with this magnificent phrase, so that they may attain the honor of acceptance.
