Hadith 8
أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ قَالَ : قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ حِينَ ذَكَرَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ ، وَأَنْكَرَهُ بَعْضُهُمْ ، فَقَالَ : يَمْنَعُنَا هَؤُلاءِ الأَنْتَانُ أَنْ نَتْرُكَ حَدِيثَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلا نُحَدِّثَ بِهِ كُلَّمَا جَهِلْنَا مَعْنَى حَدِيثٍ تَرَكْنَاهُ ، لا بَلْ نَرْوِيهِ كَمَا سَمِعْنَاهُ وَنُلْزِمُ الْجَهْلَ أَنْفُسَنَا .
Sufyan bin Abdul Malik narrated: When Ibn al-Mubarak (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned this hadith and some among them denied it, he said: These evil people will prevent us from abandoning the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and from narrating it. Should we abandon any hadith whose meaning we do not know? No, rather we will narrate it just as we have heard it, and we will blame our own selves for ignorance.
