Hadith 798

Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: "A Muslim is the brother of another Muslim, he does not oppress him nor does he disgrace him." Then he (peace be upon him) pointed towards his chest and said: "Taqwa is here."

Benefits:
From the aforementioned hadith, it is understood that the more perfect a person is in character, the more perfect he is in faith. It is evident that good character is necessary for faith; a person with good character attains the rank of one who fasts and prays. As Sayyiduna Anas radi Allahu anhu narrates, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "The most complete believer in terms of faith is the one who is best in character among them. And indeed, the one with good character reaches the rank of those who fast and pray." (Silsilat al-Sahihah, no. 1590)

Allah Dhu al-Jalal has said regarding the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam: ﴿وَاِِنَّكَ لَعَلٰی خُلُقٍ عَظِیْمٍ﴾ (al-Qalam: 4).... "You are indeed of a great character."

When Sayyidah Aishah radi Allahu anha was asked about the character of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, she replied: ((كَانَ خُلُقُهٗ الْقُرْاٰنُ)) (Musnad Ahmad: 6/91).... "His character was the Qur'an." That is, all the qualities and traits mentioned in the Noble Qur'an had become his habit and nature.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "The thing that will admit the most people into Paradise is the fear of Allah and good character." (Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 2004; Silsilat al-Sahihah, no. 977)

Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "There is nothing heavier in the scale than good character." (Sunan Abi Dawud, no. 4799; Musnad Ahmad: 6/446)
