Hadith 789

Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abusing a Muslim is wickedness and killing him is disbelief."

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
The aforementioned narration is weak; however, it is established from another authentic hadith that it is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik radi Allahu anhu: The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "By Him in Whose hand is my soul! Allah bestows His mercy only upon the merciful among His servants." He (the narrator) said: Each of us is merciful. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "I do not mean that one should be merciful only to his friend, but rather mercy should be shown to all people." (Silsilat al-Sahihah, no. 167)

It is thus understood that true mercy is that one shows mercy to everyone—one’s own, strangers, friends, and even enemies.
