Benefits:
The meaning of the aforementioned hadith is that regarding the rights of the neighbor and maintaining an attitude of honor and consideration towards him, continuous emphatic commands from Allah Ta'ala were brought by Sayyiduna Jibril alayhis salam, to the extent that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam thought that perhaps the neighbor would be made an heir. That is, a command would come that, just as after someone's death his parents, children, and other relatives inherit his estate, likewise the neighbor would also have a share in it. It is evident that the purpose of this statement is not to narrate an actual event, but rather, this is a very important pronouncement to highlight the significance of the neighbor's rights. Similarly, in another hadith, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah radi Allahu anhu that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
((By Allah, he does not believe! By Allah, he does not believe! By Allah, he does not believe! It was asked: O Messenger of Allah, who?))
He sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ((The one whose neighbor is not safe from his mischiefs.)) (Bukhari, no. 6016)
And Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, has also commanded good conduct towards neighbors:
﴿Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, and show kindness to parents, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the neighbor who is a relative, and the neighbor who is a stranger.﴾ ( an-Nisa: 36)
"Serve Allah, and do not associate anything with Him, and show kindness to parents, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, and the neighbor who is a relative, and the neighbor who is a stranger."
It is thus understood that good conduct should be shown to both related and unrelated neighbors. But if one does not show good conduct and causes them harm, such a person will be deprived of Paradise. As it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "That person will not enter Paradise whose neighbor is not secure from his mischief and harm." (Adab al-Mufrad, no. 121)
There are three types of neighbors: ➊ The neighbor who is a relative. ➋ The neighbor who is not a relative (a non-Muslim). ➌ The one with whom there is a temporary relationship of neighborhood, such as a classmate, a fellow traveler, or a colleague, etc. Good conduct is enjoined towards every type of neighbor.
