Hadith 759

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I said: O Messenger of Allah! When I visit you, my heart becomes happy and my eyes are cooled. Please tell me about everything. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Everything has been created from water." I said: Tell me about an act which, if I perform it, I will enter Paradise. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Spread peace (greetings), feed (others), maintain ties of kinship, and stand in prayer at night (tahajjud) while people are sleeping, and you will enter Paradise in peace."

Hadith Takhrij «مسند احمد : 295/2 . قال الشيخ شعيب الارناوط : اسناده صحيح . مستدرك حاكم : 144/4 .»
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
From the mentioned hadith, it is understood that the Companions (radi Allahu anhum) used to feel happiness upon seeing the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).

➊ ... From the mentioned hadith, it is also understood that Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, has created everything from water. In the Noble Qur’an it is stated: “And We made from water every living thing.” (Al-Anbiya: 30) So, if by this is meant the water of rain and springs, then it is clear that growth occurs from it and every living being receives new life from it.

➋ ... And if what is meant is the sperm-drop (nutfah), then there is no problem in that either, for the cause of the existence of every living thing is that drop of water which emerges from the loins of the male and settles in the womb of the female. (Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan)

Acts that lead to Paradise:

➊ Spreading Salam (greeting of peace): Spreading salam means to greet every person, whether one knows him or not. As it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Amr (radi Allahu anhuma) that a man asked the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam): “Which aspect of Islam is best?” He replied, “That you feed food and offer salam to those whom you know and those whom you do not know.” (Bukhari, Kitab al-Iman, No. 12)

Similarly, salam should be said in such a voice that the other person hears it. As it is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhuma): “When you say salam, say it so it is heard, for it is a greeting from Allah.”

➋ Feeding food: First and foremost, to those whose maintenance is your responsibility, as the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “And begin with those whom you support.” And he said: “It is enough sin for a man that he neglects those whose food is his responsibility.”

In addition, feeding guests, beggars, the poor, orphans, and prisoners, etc., is also the right of these people upon a person.

➌ The meaning of maintaining ties of kinship (silat ar-rahm): It is to treat relatives well, and there are several levels of kinship:

(1) The first is such a relationship that mutual marriage becomes unlawful (haram) due to it.
(2) The second is that they become heirs to one another; it is clear that the closeness that an heir receives is not received by a non-heir.
(3) The third is that, apart from these two, if kinship is established for any other reason, then the minimum level of maintaining ties is that mutual greetings and conversation continue; if even this does not exist, then there is no maintaining of ties. Regarding such people, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“He will not enter Paradise who severs (ties), meaning one who severs the ties of kinship.” (Bukhari, No. 5984)

➍ Praying at night: What is meant by this is the ‘Isha prayer, because at that time people generally sleep, and the night (tahajjud) supererogatory prayers are also included in this. Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, has mentioned the qualities of the God-fearing who will enter Paradise:
“They used to sleep but little by night, and in the hours before dawn they would seek forgiveness.” (Adh-Dhariyat: 17-18)
And He said:
“Their sides forsake their beds, calling upon their Lord in fear and hope.” (As-Sajdah: 16)

What is meant by entering Paradise in peace?
Apparently, the above-mentioned deeds are among the causes for entering Paradise; besides these, there are many other things necessary for entering Paradise. The meaning is that those who perform these deeds are granted, by Allah the Possessor of Majesty, the ability to perform other righteous deeds and to avoid evil deeds, and their end comes upon faith and righteous action. Thus, they become deserving of entering Paradise at the very beginning, being safe from punishment.
