Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) a similar narration and reported this addition: She (Sayyidah Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her) stated that I said: O Messenger of Allah! You have said what you had to say, then you honored him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The worst people in the sight of Allah are those who are honored in order to be safe from their evil."

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: From the aforementioned ahadith, it is understood that the worst people are those whose evil compels others to honor them in order to protect themselves from their harm. It is also understood that at times, backbiting (ghibah) about someone is permissible, so that people are not deceived by their outward appearance. For this reason, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) mentioned this, so that people would be aware of his character. Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has transmitted this narration under the chapter: "Chapter: What is Permissible of Backbiting the People of Corruption and Doubt"—that is, the permissibility of backbiting corrupt and wicked people, or those about whom there is a predominant assumption of evil.
It is also understood that, regardless of a person's evil, one should still treat even a bad person with good manners, so that along with being protected from his evil, he may also be encouraged and taught good character.
