Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: From the aforementioned hadith, it is understood that, as needed, two or three people may be buried in a single grave. It is narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari from Sayyiduna Jabir ibn Abdullah radi Allahu anhuma that he said: The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would cover two or three men from among the martyrs of Uhud with a single cloth. Then he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would say, “Which of them had memorized more of the Qur’an?” When one of them was indicated, he would place him first in the lahd (niche in the grave) and would say, “I am a witness for them.” (Bukhari, Kitab al-Jana'iz, no. 1343)
Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah writes: As needed, more than one person may be buried in a single grave. (Ahkam al-Jana'iz, p. 181)
