Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: "When any of you eats food, he should not clean his hand until he has licked it or had it licked."

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
It is understood that after eating, one should lick one’s fingers, as it is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “And he should not wipe his hand with a towel until he licks his fingers.”

What is the wisdom in licking the hand? The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself explained this: “For he does not know in which part of his food the blessing lies.” (: Muslim, Book of Drinks, Hadith no. 2033)

In another hadith, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “When any of you drops a morsel, he should pick it up, clean off any dirt, and eat it, and not leave it for Shaytan. And he should not wipe his hand with a cloth until he licks his fingers, for he does not know in which part of the food the blessing lies.” (: Muslim, Book of Drinks, Chapter: Recommendation to Lick the Fingers, Hadith no. 2031)

Imam Nawawi rahimahullah says: The meaning of blessing (barakah) is that it is easily digested, fully assimilated into the body, does not become a cause of illness, and becomes a means of assistance in obedience to Allah.

Sometimes a person eats a lot of food but does not feel satiated; hunger and greed remain—this is a sign of lack of blessing. And sometimes, after eating just a few morsels, he feels full—this is due to the effect of the blessing in the food.
