Hadith 702

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: "Any caravan in which there is a bell is deprived of the companionship of the angels of mercy."

Benefits:
From the mentioned hadith, it is understood that where there is a bell, the angels of mercy do not come. Drums, musical instruments, trumpets, tablas, sarangi, etc. are also included in this.

However, the question arises that in the present era, the sound of the bell has become a necessity for people—for example, the need for a bell to enter homes, the need for a bell to change periods in madrasas, schools, and colleges, the need for a bell for telephones. So, should the use of the bell be abandoned in all these necessities? Doing so would cause countless difficulties, even harm. And if it is kept in use, then the angels of mercy do not come? So what should be done in this situation?

In reality, there are two types of bells: one is that which produces a musical tune or melody, and the other is that which does not produce a melody or tune. The bell condemned in the mentioned hadith refers to the bell that produces a musical tune and melody. As for those bells in which no melody is produced, they are not included in this condemnation.

However, in the present era, music, instruments, and melodies are being incorporated into clocks, telephones, and other electronic devices. Muslims should avoid these things and instead use words such as "Bismillah," "Alhamdulillah," or "Allahu Akbar" in their place.
