Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A woman who practiced tattooing was brought to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: I adjure you by Allah, has any one of you heard anything from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about this? Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I stood up and said: O Commander of the Believers! I have heard (something) from him. He said: What have you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? I said: I heard him say: "Do not tattoo, and do not get tattooed." (That is, making marks on the body with a needle and filling them with color.)

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: From the aforementioned hadith, it is understood that one should not perform tattooing nor have it done. Tattooing means to pierce the skin with a needle or similar instrument to draw blood, then to fill that spot with kohl or indigo, etc., so that the area becomes green or black. In the era of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), this practice was common among the Arabs, but the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) forbade it. In another hadith, it is narrated that Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhuma) stated that the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) invoked curse upon the one who attaches artificial hair and the one who has it attached, the one who tattoos and the one who has it done.
