Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) strictly forbade (wearing) silk. A man said to Abdullah bin Shaqiq: You too are wearing silk. He replied: Subhan Allah! This is not silk. The man said: Its warp is of silk. Abdullah bin Shaqiq said: I did not know that.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: In another hadith, it is narrated that Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu said that indeed the Prophet of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam took silk in his right hand and gold in his left hand and said, “These two things are forbidden for the men of my ummah.” (Sahih Abu Dawud, no. 2422)
However, if there is a small amount of silk in the garment, it is permissible, whether it is in the form of embroidery or as a piece of silk fabric, but it should not exceed four fingers in width.
As narrated from Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu: He used to prohibit (wearing) both fine and coarse silk, except for that which is only this much—then (Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu) pointed with one finger, then the second, then the third, then the fourth, and said, “The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to forbid us from more than this.” (Sunan Ibn Majah, no. 3593)
The majority hold the position that if the silk does not exceed four fingers in width, it is permissible. (Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi: 5/384)
