Benefits:
From the aforementioned hadith, it is understood that it is not permissible to walk wearing only one shoe; either both should be worn or both should be taken off. This is because the purpose of shoes is to protect the feet from harmful things such as thorns, etc. Furthermore, normal walking is not maintained, nor is the balance of the body correct. Similarly, it is Sunnah to put on the right shoe first and to take off the left shoe first. In addition, in another hadith, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "Indeed, Shaytan walks with one shoe." (Silsilat al-Sahihah, no. 348)
Sayyiduna Jabir radi Allahu anhu reports that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "When the strap of one of your shoes breaks, he should not walk wearing only one shoe until he fixes its strap, nor should he walk wearing only one sock." (Muslim, Book of Clothing)
It is thus understood that it is also not permissible to walk around wearing only one sock or stocking. The above-mentioned ahadith also teach the etiquettes of putting on and taking off shoes. The scholars say: Every act that involves adornment, or is a cause of honor or dignity, should be started from the right side. For example, putting on trousers, entering the mosque, applying kohl, and likewise performing ablution (wudu), eating food, etc.
As is mentioned in Bukhari and Muslim, the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam liked to begin from the right side in his affairs: in putting on shoes, in combing his hair, in ablution, and in all his matters.
