Hadith 67

Sa’sa’ah bin Sawhan said to Abu Zaid: I do not love your mother more than you, while you love my mother more than me. There are two qualities I advise you with, so remember them from me: Have sincere friendship with a believer, and behave well with a wicked person, because a wicked person will accept your words through good manners, and a believer has the right over you that you have sincere friendship with him.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
➊ It is understood that one’s relationship with a believer should be solely for the sake of Allah’s pleasure, and this is the very relationship that will benefit a person in this world and the Hereafter.

➋ ... One should treat a wicked person (fajir) with good conduct. Allah, the Exalted, has said:
(Ha Mim As-Sajdah: 34)
“Good and evil are not equal. Repel [evil] with that which is best; then the one between whom and you there was enmity will become as though he were a devoted friend.”
