Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: Two men were abusing each other, and one of them taunted the other regarding his mother. The matter reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he called that man and said: "Did you taunt him regarding his mother?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this statement several times. The man said: O Messenger of Allah! I seek forgiveness from Allah for what I have said. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Raise your head! And look towards this group." He looked at the people around the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet said: "You are not superior to any of these red or black people; superiority is only for the one who is superior in religion."

Benefits: The aforementioned narration is weak. However, a narration with the same meaning is found in Bukhari and Muslim. The noble Ma‘rur bin Suwayd rahimahullah says: I saw Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari rahimahullah; he was wearing a set of clothes, and his slave was also wearing a set of clothes of the same kind. We asked him the reason for this, so he explained: Once, I exchanged harsh words with a companion of mine. He complained about me to the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asked me: “Did you reproach him regarding his mother?” Then the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Your slaves are your brothers. Although Allah, the Exalted, has placed them under your authority, so whoever has a brother under his control, let him feed him from what he himself eats, and clothe him with what he himself wears, and do not burden them with more than they can bear. But if you do burden them beyond their capacity, then help them yourselves.” (Bukhari, Kitab al-‘Itq, no. 2545)
