Hadith 622

Lady Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: We were commanded not to apply perfume during mourning, except that after purification from menstruation, we may use a little bit of Indian aloeswood and azfar perfume at the time of bathing.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
➊ This hadith contains an explanation of the rulings regarding mourning (sog) and the waiting period (‘iddah). Colored clothes should also not be worn during the ‘iddah, but it is permissible to wear clothing that is not of a very bright color, as mentioned in the hadith: ((thawb ‘asab)), meaning “some white and some colored.” This cloth was made in Yemen and contained mostly white with some colored portions.
➋ From the mentioned hadith, it is also understood that when a woman performs the ritual bath (ghusl) after menstruation (hayd), she should use perfume to remove odor from her private area, and this is permitted even in the state of mourning (sog).
