Benefits:
From the aforementioned hadith, it is understood that reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas carries the reward equivalent to one third of the Qur’an. Perhaps this is because this surah contains the exposition of Allah’s tawhid (oneness), and this tawhid encompasses the oneness of Lordship (tawhid al-rububiyyah), Divinity (tawhid al-uluhiyyah), and Names and Attributes (tawhid al-asma wa al-sifat).
Sayyiduna Ubayy ibn Ka‘b radi Allahu anhu states: The polytheists said, “O Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam! Describe to us the lineage of your Lord.” So Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, revealed: “Say: He is Allah, the One.” (). (Mustadrak Hakim: 2/540)
Even in terms of the subjects and themes of the Qur’an, this surah is one third of the Qur’an, since the Qur’an contains tawhid in all its complete categories, and secondly, rulings and legal matters, and thirdly, stories and reports. Among these three categories, Surah Al-Ikhlas is entirely devoted to tawhid. Thus, reciting it once brings the reward of reciting ten juz’, and it should be recited with understanding of its meanings and implications so that complete reward may be attained.
Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, loves those who recite this surah, as is narrated from Sayyidah A’ishah radi Allahu anha that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam sent a man as the commander of a military detachment, and he would conclude his recitation in prayer with “Say: He is Allah, the One.” When they returned, they mentioned this to the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. He sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Ask him why he does so.” The people asked him, and he replied: “Because it is a description of the Most Merciful (al-Rahman), and I love to recite it.” So the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Inform him that Allah, the Exalted, loves him.” (Bukhari, Book of Tawhid, Chapter: What has come regarding the Prophet’s sallallahu alayhi wa sallam supplication of his ummah to the tawhid of Allah, Blessed and Exalted)
In another narration, the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ((Indeed, your love for it has admitted you to Paradise.)) (Bukhari, no. 774; Sunan Tirmidhi, no. 2901) “Your love for it has admitted you to Paradise.”
From all these ahadith, it can be gauged how important this surah is. Glad tidings of a palace in Paradise are given for reciting this surah ten times.
