Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said one day: "I wish that I had one of my companions with me, so I could complain to him and talk with him." She said: I thought that you would want to meet Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), so I said: Shall I call Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) for you? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "No." I said: Shall I call Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) for you? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "No." I said: Shall I call Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) for you? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "No." I said: Shall I call Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) for you? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Yes." She said: I called Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and he came. When he was in the house, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to me: "Withdraw." So I withdrew, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) brought Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) close to him, until his knee touched his knee. She narrated: Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) began to talk with Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and the color of Uthman's face began to turn red. She said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) kept speaking to him, and his face kept turning red, then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to him: "Go." So he left. When the day of the siege of his house came, they said to Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him): Why do you not fight? He replied: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) took a covenant from me, and I will remain firm upon it. She (Lady Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her) said: We understood that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had taken a covenant from him regarding this incident.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: From the aforementioned hadith, the obedience of Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu to the Messenger is established, as he gave his life but did not bow before the rebels. Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu also had an army at his disposal, but he allowed himself to be martyred. The reason for this was that there should be no bloodshed in the city of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and secondly, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had taken a covenant from him. It is thus known that the prophecy made by the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was fulfilled exactly as stated; this was a miracle of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu’s servant, Abu Sahla radi Allahu anhu, narrates: The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was whispering to Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu, while the color of Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu’s face was changing. When the day of the siege arrived, we said to Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu: “Shall we not fight them?” Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu said: “Do not fight, because the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam took a promise from me, and I am making myself bound to it.”
