With this same chain: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him) saw a man stealing, so he said to him: 'Did you steal?' He replied: 'No, by Him besides whom there is no deity.' So Isa (peace be upon him) said: 'I believe in Allah and I declare my sight to be false.'"

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: From the aforementioned hadith, it is understood that when someone informs you of something by swearing an oath by Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, then it should be accepted. However, if someone swears a false oath, the sin will be upon the one who swears, even if the other person is witnessing the matter; still, the oath of the one swearing will be considered.
From the above hadith, the greatness of Sayyiduna Isa (alayhis salam) is also established, in that Sayyiduna Isa (alayhis salam) saw the matter, but due to the oath by Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, he denied his own observation and direct witnessing.
In light of the mentioned hadith, the jurists of the Maliki and Hanbali schools hold the opinion that a judge does not have the right to issue a verdict based solely on his own knowledge. However, according to the Shafi'i jurists, except in cases of hudud (prescribed punishments), in all other cases and matters, the judge has the authority to issue a verdict. (Irshad al-Sari: 5/417)
