Hadith 56

With the same chain, it is narrated from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: "By Him in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! You will surely enter Paradise except for the one who refuses."

In another hadith, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
((Kullu ummati yadkhulūnal-jannata illā man abā. Qālū: Yā Rasūlallāh, wa man abā? Qāla: Man ata‘anī dakhala al-jannah wa man ‘aṣānī faqad abā)) (Bukhari, no. 7280)
“All of my ummah will enter Paradise except those who refuse.” The Companions radi Allahu anhum asked: O Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, who will refuse? He said: “Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys me has refused.”

It is understood from this that only those who obey the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam will enter Paradise, and the disobedient will be deprived of entering Paradise. What is the meaning of obedience? In the Noble Qur’an it is stated:
﴿Wa laqad qāla lahum Hārūnu min qablu yā qawmi innamā futintum bihī wa inna rabbakumu ar-Raḥmānu fattabi‘ūnī wa aṭī‘ū amrī﴾ ()
“And Aaron (alayhis salam) had already said to them before: O my people! You have only been tested by it (the calf), and indeed your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my command.” ()

In this, the meaning of obedience is to accept and follow the command. Allah the Exalted says:
﴿Wa mā ātākumu ar-rasūlu fakhudhūhu wa mā nahākum ‘anhu fantahū﴾ ()
“Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatever he forbids you from, abstain from it.” ()

Entry into Paradise is only through obedience to the Messenger, as Allah the Exalted says:
﴿Wa man yuṭi‘illāha wa rasūlahu yudkhilhu jannātin tajrī min taḥtihā al-anhāru khālidīna fīhā wa dhālika al-fawzu al-‘aẓīm﴾ ()
“Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, Allah will admit him to Gardens beneath which rivers flow, to abide therein forever; and that is the great success.” ()
