Hadith 549

Muhammad bin Ziyad narrated: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then he narrated similar to the previous hadith. Shu’bah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated: Just as strange camels are driven away, I think he said: ... from the reservoir.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
It is understood that on the Day of Resurrection, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) will be granted the Pond of Kawthar, from which he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) will give water to the people of his ummah.

Description of the Pond of Kawthar:
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Amr (radi Allahu anhuma) that the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “My pond will be as large as the distance of a month’s journey. Its water will be whiter than milk and its fragrance better than musk, and its cups will be as numerous as the stars in the sky. And whoever drinks from it once will never feel thirst again.” (Bukhari, Kitab al-Riqaq, Hadith: 6579)

Who will be deprived of the Pond of Kawthar?
(1) The Innovator (Bid’ati): It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radi Allahu anhu) that the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “I will be present at my pond before you, and some people from among you will be brought before me, then they will be driven away from me. So I will say, ‘O my Lord! These are my companions.’ But it will be said to me, ‘You do not know what new things they invented in the religion after you.’” (Bukhari, Kitab al-Riqaq, Hadith: 6576)

(2) The Evil Rulers: In “Jami’ al-Tirmidhi,” it is narrated from Sayyiduna Ka’b ibn ‘Ujrah (radi Allahu anhu) that the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said to me: “I seek Allah’s protection for you from the evil rulers who will come after me. Whoever goes to their doors, affirms their lies, and helps them in their oppression, he is not from me and I am not from him, and he will not be able to come to my pond.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Salat, Bab Ma Dhukira fi Fadl al-Salat, Hadith: 614, graded sahih by al-Albani)

(3) The One Who Keeps Large Mustaches: The Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever keeps his mustache long, he will be punished with four things: (1) Munkar and Nakir will come to him in a state of anger. (2) He will be given every kind of punishment in the grave. (3) He will not attain the intercession of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). (4) He will not attain the water of the Pond of Kawthar.” (Tarikh al-Khamis fi Ahwal Anfus al-Nafis by al-Husayn al-Diyar Bakri, d. 966H: 2/35)
