It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man used to visit his (Muslim) brother in another town. On his way, there was an angel who said to him: "Where are you intending to go?" He replied: "I am going to visit my brother in another town." The angel asked: "Is there any favor of his upon you which you are mindful of?" He said: "No, but I love him for the sake of Allah." The angel said: "I am a messenger from Allah to you (He has said) that just as you love him for My sake, so do I love you."

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: The mentioned incident appears to be about an individual from a previous nation. It is understood from this that angels, by Allah’s command, can sometimes come to someone who is not a prophet and converse with him in such a manner. As is stated in the Noble Qur’an, Sayyiduna Jibril (alayhis salam) was sent to Sayyidah Maryam (radi Allahu anha). The command of Allah, the Exalted, is: ﴿فَاَرْسَلْنَآاِلَیْهَارُوْحَنَافَتَمَثَّلَلَهَابَشَرًاسَوِیًّا﴾ (Maryam: 17).... “We sent to her Our Spirit (Jibril alayhis salam), and he appeared before her as a well-proportioned man.”
From the mentioned hadith, the virtue of loving one another solely for the sake of Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, and meeting each other for this reason, is also established. It is also understood that traveling to meet one’s Muslim brother for the sake of Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, is permissible.
And such fortunate people will be granted the shade of Allah, the Possessor of Majesty’s Throne, as the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “There are seven types of people whom Allah, the Exalted, will grant shade under His Throne on the Day of Resurrection, when there will be no shade except His shade.” Among them is: “Two men who love each other for the sake of Allah; they meet upon that and part upon that.” (Sahih Bukhari, no. 77)
And in a hadith qudsi it is stated that (on the Day of Resurrection) Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, will say: “Where are those who loved one another for My Majesty and Greatness? For them there are pulpits of light.” (upon which they will sit) (Sunan Tirmidhi, no. 2390, its chain is authentic)
