Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
In another hadith, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Miqdad radi Allahu anhu that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “No one has ever eaten food better than that which he has earned with his own hands, and Allah’s Prophet, Sayyiduna Dawud alayhis salam, used to eat from what he earned with his own hands.” (Bukhari, Kitab al-Buyu’, no. 2072) From the aforementioned hadith, the virtue and profession of Zakariya alayhis salam become clear.

It is understood that earnings obtained through hard work are blessed, provided that the rulings of the Shari’ah are observed in them, and this hard work can be physical or it can be technical skill or craftsmanship. It is also understood that no profession should be considered despicable, nor should those who practice them be looked down upon; rather, such people are worthy of respect in society. However, it is unfortunate that in our society people consider them contemptible, whereas the profession that is truly contemptible and disgraceful is that in which a person adopts unlawful means. From the aforementioned hadith, it is also understood that carpentry is a good profession through which a person can earn lawful sustenance by the labor of his own hands.
