Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
There are various types of horses; some are superior and some are inferior.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah al-Ansari radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “The best horse is the one that is black, with a small white mark on its forehead, whiteness on all four legs, the nose and upper lip are white, and the front right leg is not white. If it is not black in color, then a horse possessing these same characteristics is excellent.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah, Chapters on Jihad, no. 2789. Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 1697)

What are shikal horses? In “Sahih Muslim,” the narrator has defined shikal: a horse that has whiteness on the right leg and left foreleg, or on the right foreleg and left leg. (Muslim, Book of Leadership, no. 1875)

There is a difference of opinion regarding the definition of shikal. Some have said: a horse with three white legs and one of the same color (as the body), or three of the same color and one white. For details, see (Sharh Muslim by al-Nawawi).
