Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: ➊ ... From the aforementioned ahadith, it is understood that even if the invitation of a poor person is simple and modest, it should be accepted. And accepting an invitation is among the rights of a Muslim. As is mentioned in Sahih Muslim, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "The rights of a Muslim over another Muslim are six." (Among them is this right:) "When he invites you, then respond to him (accept it)." In another hadith, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "Whoever does not accept the invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger." In another hadith it is stated: "When any one of you is invited, let him accept." (Muslim, Kitab al-Nikah, no. 1431) ... "When any one of you is invited, let him accept it." Especially the invitation to a wedding feast (walimah).
➋ ... It is also understood that even if a small thing is given as a gift (hadiyah), it should not be rejected considering it insignificant. Rather, it should be accepted, and one should try, according to one's ability, to give something in return to the one who gave the gift. As is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah radi Allahu anha that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to accept gifts and would also give something in return. (Bukhari, Kitab al-Hibah wa Fadliha, no. 2585; Sunan Abi Dawud, no. 3536) If one is unable to give anything, then at least say "Jazak Allahu khayran" (may Allah reward you with goodness) and make supplication for the giver.
