Hadith 427

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: "We are a group of Prophets (peace be upon them all), we have been commanded to hasten in breaking the fast (at the time of iftar), to delay the pre-dawn meal (suhoor), and that we should hold our left hands with our right hands during prayer."

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
➊ It is understood that hastening to break the fast (iftar) and delaying the pre-dawn meal (suhoor) is recommended (mustahabb). Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “People will remain upon goodness and well-being as long as they hasten in breaking the fast.” (Bukhari, Kitab al-Sawm, no. 1957; Muslim, no. 1098)
As long as people continue to hasten in breaking the fast, the religion will always remain dominant, because the Jews and Christians delay breaking the fast. (Sahih Abu Dawood, no. 2063) The noble Companions radi Allahu anhum were the quickest among people in breaking the fast and the latest in eating suhoor. (Fath al-Bari: 4/713)

➋ It is understood that one should place the right hand over the left hand, and grasp the left hand with the right hand. Those who place three fingers on top are not correct. Where should the hands be placed? Sayyiduna Wa’il bin Hujr radi Allahu anhu states: ((I prayed with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and he placed his right hand over his left hand on his chest.)) (Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah, no. 479) ... “I prayed with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and he placed his right hand over his left hand on his chest.”

Sayyiduna Hulb radi Allahu anhu states: I saw the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam placing his hands on his chest. (Musnad Ahmad: 5/226)

In a narration from Sayyiduna Sahl radi Allahu anhu, it is mentioned that people were commanded to place their right hand on their left forearm during prayer. (Bukhari, Kitab al-Adhan, no. 740)

When the right hand is placed on the left forearm (i.e., the wrist), both hands will naturally come upon the chest.
