Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: From the aforementioned hadith, it is understood that the supplication (du'a) of a fasting person is also not rejected. One should supplicate at the time of breaking the fast (iftar), because that is a time of acceptance. As it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr radi Allahu anhuma, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ((Inna lil-sa’imi ‘inda fitrihi la-da’watan ma turaddu)) (Sunan Ibn Majah, no. 1753. Its chain is authentic) “Indeed, for the fasting person at the time of breaking his fast, there is a supplication which is not rejected.”
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Mulaikah rahimahullah narrates that he heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr radi Allahu anhuma saying at the time of breaking the fast: ((Allahumma inni as’aluka birahmatika allati wasi‘at kulla shay’in an taghfira li)) (Sunan Ibn Majah, no. 1753) ... “O Allah! I ask You by Your mercy which encompasses all things, that You forgive me.”
In another hadith it is stated: ((Thalathu da‘awatin mustajabatun.)) “Three supplications are answered.” The supplication of the fasting person, the supplication of the oppressed, and the supplication of the traveler. (Sahih al-Jami‘ al-Saghir, no. 3030)
