Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: From the mentioned hadith, it is understood that whoever eats or drinks forgetfully while fasting, his fast will not be broken, because the Shari‘ah has taken into account the natural weaknesses of human beings, and forgetfulness is also part of human nature. And in the Shari‘ah of Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), there is no accountability for such things, as is stated in the hadith: Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Allah has pardoned for my sake my ummah’s mistakes, forgetfulness, and what they are compelled to do.” (Sunan Ibn Majah, no. 2043) From this, one can also appreciate the compassion and ease of Islam.
