Hadith 369

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: (At the time of departing from Makkah) there is no special significance to sleeping or staying in the valley of Muhassab; it is merely a place where the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
From the aforementioned hadith, it is understood that staying in the Valley of Muhassab (this is a plain between Makkah and Mina) is not among the rites of Hajj.

As narrated from Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha, she said: Staying in the plain of Abtah is not a Sunnah. The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam only stayed there because it made departure easier for him. (Muslim, Kitab al-Hajj, no. 1311; Tirmidhi, no. 923)

However, the majority of scholars hold the view that staying in the Valley of Muhassab is virtuous. As Hazrat Nafi‘ rahimahullah says: Sayyiduna Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma would sleep for a short while in Batha’, then enter Makkah, and he used to say that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to do likewise. (Sunan Abi Dawud, Kitab al-Manasik, no. 2012)
