Hadith 357

Ibn Jurayj narrated: ‘Ata’ (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about a person in the state of ihram—can he buy and sell? He said: They used to avoid it, until this verse was revealed: «لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَن تَبْتَغُوا فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ» “There is no sin upon you that you seek the bounty of your Lord.” That is, during the months of Hajj.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
It is understood that engaging in trade during the months of Hajj is permissible. In the era of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), there were commercial centers near Majaz, ‘Ukaz, ‘Arafat, and Mina during the days of Hajj. People used to buy and sell in these markets. Due to the practices of the people of Jahiliyyah, the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) did not consider buying and selling during the days of Hajj to be good, so the aforementioned verse was revealed. If someone devotes himself as much as possible to the worship of Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, during these days, it is more virtuous.

It is also understood that earning profit through trade is a source of goodness, because Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, has referred to it as His bounty. Therefore, Muslims should engage in trade. Allah, the Possessor of Majesty, has placed great profit in trade.
