Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: In the days of ignorance, performing ‘Umrah during the months of Hajj was considered the greatest immorality (sinful act). They used to say: When the back of the camel becomes rested, its hair grows well, and the month of Safar ends, then it becomes lawful for the one performing ‘Umrah to do so. So, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions came in the morning of the fourth (of Dhul-Hijjah) in the state of Ihram for Hajj, and he commanded them to intend to open their Ihram for ‘Umrah. This was hard on them, so they said: O Messenger of Allah, what has become lawful for us? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Everything has become lawful.”
