Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits: There are two types of miqat: (1)... Miqat Zamani (temporal miqat). (2)... Miqat Makani (spatial miqat).
(1) Miqat Zamani: ... The time within which the ihram for Hajj can be donned is the months of Shawwal, Dhu al-Qi'dah, and the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah. As Allah the Exalted says: ﴿اَلْحَجُّاَشْهُرٌمَّعْلُوْمٰتٌ﴾ ( al-Baqarah: 197) ... "Hajj is [in] well-known months."
(2) Miqat Makani: ... That is, the locations from where the ihram for Hajj or Umrah is donned, and those coming from outside these miqats cannot proceed further without donning ihram. The spatial miqats are as follows:
(1) Dhu al-Hulayfah: ... Its new name is Abar Ali. This miqat is for the people of Madinah Munawwarah and its surrounding areas. It is approximately 450 kilometers from Makkah al-Mukarramah.
(2) Juhfah: ... This settlement is the miqat for those coming from the direction of Shaam, Egypt, and Turkey. Now it has become deserted. Therefore, nowadays, ihram is donned from a nearby place called Rabigh, which is located about 187 kilometers to the north of Makkah.
(3) Qarn al-Manazil: ... This is the miqat for those coming from Najd and the direction of Arafat. It is the name of a mountain at whose base there was a settlement, which no longer exists. Nowadays, the nearby place is called al-Sayl, which is about 94 kilometers from Makkah al-Mukarramah.
(4) Yalamlam: ... This is the place for the people of Yemen to don ihram. Yalamlam is the name of a mountain located approximately 92 kilometers from Makkah.
(5) It is understood that whoever intends to perform Hajj or Umrah will don ihram from these miqats, but those residing within these miqats will don ihram from their respective places of residence.
