Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) said: "Abundance of wealth and possessions is not richness, but richness of the heart is the real richness."
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
From the aforementioned hadith, it is understood that having abundant wealth is not true affluence; real affluence is the richness of the soul. Many people possess a lot of money, yet they are always seeking more wealth and remain engrossed in earning, to the extent that they do not even have time to eat or drink. They do not spend in the way of Allah, nor do they spend on themselves. This is not true affluence. Real affluence is that the heart is content; even if one has little, the heart is satisfied, and from that little, he spends on himself, his family, his guests, and other servants of Allah.
Such a person is truly affluent; even if he possesses nothing, he remains engaged in the remembrance of Allah, the Lord of Majesty, with patience and contentment. His intention does not turn towards others, nor does he ask from people. The heart of such a person is rich.
In another hadith, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Amr radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Successful is the one who accepted Islam, was provided with sustenance according to his need, and Allah granted him contentment with whatever He gave him.” (Muslim, Book of Zakat, No. 1054)
