Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When food from someone’s house was presented to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he would ask about it. If it was said that it was a gift, he would eat from it, and if it was said that it was charity, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: “Eat,” and he would not eat from it.

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits: From the aforementioned hadith, it is understood that the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not consume charity (sadaqah), because charity was not lawful (halal) for his person and his family (Ahl). This is because it is considered the impurities of the people, and thus Allah, the Exalted, did not like that His Prophet and the Prophet’s family should make use of charity. Besides this, there were many other wisdoms as well. (For further details, see Hadith and Explanation: 50, 51)
