It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach him this supplication just as he used to teach him a surah of the Qur'an: "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, I seek refuge in You from the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal), and I seek refuge in You from the trials of life and death."
