Sayyida Umm ‘Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: We (women) were forbidden from following funeral processions, but it was not an emphatic prohibition.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
From the mentioned hadith, it is understood that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not prohibit women from participating in the funeral prayer, but he did forbid them from following the funeral procession. There is a concession for women to participate in the funeral prayer. As narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (radi Allahu anha), she performed the funeral prayer of Sayyiduna Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas (radi Allahu anhu) in the mosque. (Muslim, Kitab al-Jana'iz, Hadith: 973)

Shaykh Ibn Baz (rahimahullah) states: It is established that women may participate in the funeral prayer, but they should not proceed for the burial of the deceased, because this has been prohibited by the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). (Fatawa Islamiyyah: 2/18)
