Hadith 262

Lady Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: We made three braids of the hair of the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), then we gathered all of them together and placed them behind her.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abdush Shakoor Tirmidhi
Benefits:
From the mentioned hadith, it is understood that when giving the ritual bath (ghusl) to the deceased, one should begin from the right side, because it is prescribed to begin every good deed from the right side.

It is also understood that if the deceased is a woman, it is Sunnah to divide her hair into three braids and place them behind her. Combing should also be done, as Umm ‘Atiyyah radi Allahu anha states that they combed her hair and divided it into three plaits. (Bukhari, no. 1254)
