Hadith 246

أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ، أنا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي جِنَازَةٍ، كُنْتُ إِذَا مَشَيْتُ سَبَقَنِي فَأُهَرْوِلُ، فَإِذَا هَرْوَلْتُ سَبَقْتُهُ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى جَنْبِي: ((إِنَّ الْأَرْضَ تُطْوَى لَهُ)) .
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in a funeral procession. When I walked, he would go ahead of me, and then I started walking faster. When I walked faster, I went ahead of him. There was a man beside me, he said: The earth is being folded for you.

In another hadith, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah radi Allahu anhu that: "We used to hasten (run) with the funeral procession along with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam." (Sahih Abu Dawood: 2725)
It is thus understood that the funeral should be taken quickly and one should walk briskly with it.
